Guided tours and short courses on the sea and in calm waters outside the city of Lysekil. Our equipment is adapted for those with little or no previous experience of sea kayaking. Our tour guides love to share the best this area has to offer: the cliffs, the sea, the fjords, the bays, the seaweed and the eelgrass meadows in one of the world's 10 most beautiful archipelago layers.

Tip: turn the phone to see more of the text in the calendar. (k2 = 2.5 hours, k4 = 4 hours)

DYNAMIC RANGE OF ACTIVITIES

Lysekil is exposed to the sea. It provides great opportunities to get out into the outer archipelago, but it also means that and we are dependent on "suitable weather" to be able to conduct paddling in this area. Sometimes it may be enough for us to change the place of insertion. We continuously ADJUST our range of scheduled, bookable kayak trips. This means that more departures can be added in the event of high demand, while other activities may have a changed departure time or be canceled altogether, for example if they are less suitable due to wind strength and / or direction, rain or other.

Therefore, do not wait until the last minute to book. If there are no bookings when the weather is bad, we may "close the store" even in high season. Prices vary between different price categories, and depending on the choice of day of the week and start time.

Kayak clinic 1: Basic technique and safety for open water kayaking

Are you new to open-water kayaking? Do you intend to rent a kayak via our unmanned KAYAKOMAT in Lysekil? Most people go out when the weather is good, but sometimes the weather changes, quickly and unexpectedly. Then it can be good to have basic knowledge about paddling at sea and how to avoid getting into awkward situations. This workshop (Kayak clinic #1) is a good preparation for anyone who plans on taking a kayak tour on open waters along the Swedish West Coast. During this kayak clinic, you can repeat basic skills and learn other things that are important to know before paddling among boats, on the open sea, parallel with, and crossing fairways etc. You will learn how to get in and out of the kayak on different types of beaches, as well as how to carry and handle the kayak on land. We show you good sitting posture and how to adjust the foot braces and use thigh braces. You'll learn to maintain your desired course without using a rudder, as well as the most common paddling techniques for moving forward and backwards. We'll also run through how to make a stop, and how to move sideways. The most important thing when planning to paddle at sea is that you can assess your own ability to avoid and handle upcoming situations. In this way, you can plan so that you and others you paddle with will have a comfortable and wonderful experience. There are a number of things that you ought to avoid at sea... We will go through that on the course.   After attending this workshop, you will receive a seasonal discount on our unmanned KAYAKOMAT in Lysekil and can rent a kayak 24/7, i.e. paddle when it suits you. In addition, you will receive advance information when we sell used kayaks, a discount on our other workshops, etc. Our kayak clinics: Kayak clinic 1 contains what we consider as minimum requirements for the waters around Lysekil. Kayak clinic 2 lets you practice self-rescue and peer rescue in calm and more exposed conditions Kayak clinic 3 aims at making parents more confident to bring their kids along on a kayak trip

Kayak clinic 2: Kayak capsize and rescue techniques

Can you assist a capsized peer? Are you proficient in self-rescue?  This clinic is a good preparation for anyone who plans on taking a kayak tour on open waters along the Swedish West Coast. If you are planning on taking your less experienced friends on a kayak trip you need to be proficient enough to assess risk and plan the trip in order to avoid exposing others to risk.  If you are a novice or if you have done a lot of paddling in confined waters, the natural swells and the waves stirred up by passing motor boats are still a very good reason to acquire and practice various techniques for self- and peer rescue. We'll also practice paddling in a group, towing another kayak and bracing strokes, that is using your paddle to regain stability.  Once you have acquired these skills you will be an asset on any kind of kayaking activity, whether in a group of peers, with a single friend or on a guided tour. We recommend taking this clinic every few years, as repetition is the mother of learning. Learning to minimize risks at sea is an ongoing project that is mainly about developing "an eye", based on practice and a lot of experience in various conditions.  Have you already taken the class indoors? Good! But these skills need to be kept up to date and practised regularly. Now it is time to practice outdoors. With our offshore location, it is easy to modify the conditions. We start in calm waters and can move to a more challenging environment when you have become more proficient. This is not included: You may try "rolling", as a means of capsizing at will, but we will not practice that technique during this clinic. That takes a specialized clinic. Kayak trip 3hrs: CITY PADDLING or open sea

Would you like to try paddling in one of the world’s most beautiful archipelagos? According to a recent CNN Traveler listing, the seascapes around Lysekil and the Swedish West Coast are stunning. You can come along on a beginner-friendly trip in stable ocean kayaks. Theme: City and Nature. The guide will stop at regular intervals to let participants have a rest and to tell you about the surroundings. What you will see during a trip will vary due to the prevailing weather conditions. Normally this tour will run to Havsbadsparken and the guest harbour on the southern side of the peninsula. On the way, we pass the spectacular Stångehuvud Nature reserve with its mix of pristine nature and reminiscences of quarrying 100 years ago.  Option: Visit a small island If the group wants we may instead head out into the archipelago to one of the islands. Maybe there is time for a quick jump from the cliffs. Just in case, bring your swim gear and a towel if you want to take a swim in the manner of the locals. The wind direction, speed, and wave amplitude will limit what is possible. As the fairway around Stångehuvud is crowded and boat captains have been known to be reckless it's an advantage to go in a group. The guide will give you safety tips and talk about what you see during the trip. We are there to assist you in entering and alighting the stable twin kayaks, and to teach basic techniques and safety issues. For families with children from 5-11 years, and participants with dogs, pls choose Family paddling. WINDS AND WAVES

As we are situtated on the tip of a peninsula with only a few skerries between us and the North Sea Lysekil can be eposed to foul weather. This means that we sometimes have to relocate the time or place of departure for a guided tour in order to keep our guests comfortable and confident. It is always the activity leader who has the ultimate say whether to abort or cancel an activity.

Our ambition is to always be able to offer an alternative activity that is less weather depending. One such example is offering kayaking for climbing guests if there is a light rain, or offering cykling or climbing to kayakers if the wind is to strong. Such alterations however are always communicated in advance.

GOOD TO KNOW PRIOR TO BOOKING:

  • Winter season: October - April
  • Summer season: May - September
  • Would we need to cancel a tour (due to strong winds etc) there will be a refund to the credit card used for payment of the booking and participants will be notified at least 2 hours prior to scheduled departure. However, we always try to offer an alternative activity that is less dependent on the weather.
  • Together with booking confirmation you will receive information on how to dress and what to bring, i.e. spare (reinforcement) clothing.
  • On some tours there will be a minimum number of booked guests in order for the tour to run. In such a case the amount will be reserved from your card, but it will not be charged unless the required number of guests have booked.
  • Our 4 hour tours are designed for participants that look for a combination of leisurely paddling and getting to know the local culture. On tours that are longer than 3 hours a complimentary outdoor meal is an imortant feature of the tour.

  • Short tours (2 or 4 hours) are suitable to everyone, regardless of previous kayaking  experience. Normally we use K2/tandem kayaks with 2 separate cockpits, as a means of pfoviding optimum stability and seating comfort. Would you like to paddle alone in a K1/single kayak you can book this as an addon for a small surcharge.
  • Security, care and enjoyment are key words when we plan our activities and trips. Every tour starts with a breefing and relevant information on technique and safety procedures.
  • No prior kayaking experience needed, but you must be able to swim 200 meters and have "normal" health (feeling well). If in doubt, please consult with your regular physician if the two of you can asses that you are able to exert moderate physical labour.
  • A prerequisite for participation on longer tours (5-6 hours) is that you have enough previous experience of kayaking to assess that you are able to spend a few hours sitting still in a kayak in addition to a regular level of fitness.
