Kayak trip 2hrs: FAMILY PADDLING

From SEK 495

On this tour, you can bring children from 5 years old, your grandmother or the dog - or everyone, at once...
Paddle past the granite cliffs that surround beautiful Lysekil, at a leisurely pace. Look at seabirds and algae, taste seaweed, listen to the lapping of the waves and enjoy the surging of the waves.
We stay close to land and avoid busy waterways. But we may also stick our noses out to feel a bit of rougher waters, and quickly return to safety. It all depends on what you want and dare, and what the weather allows us to do.

Guide and instructor.
The guide will stop for short rest breaks and to tell us about what we see and experience during the paddle trip. You get help before the trip to adjust the equipment and get into the kayak. Next, we go through simple paddling techniques. You will learn a little about what you need to think about if you are going to paddle on your own along the coast. After the tour, we go through how kayaking equipment should be taken care of.

  • Families with youths from 12 years, can also chose City paddling with open sea.
  • To paddle at night in sea fire (bioluminescence) or enjoy the sunset  Click here

Kayak trip:
FAMILY PADDLING

Area: LYSEKIL  We paddle mainly in the area between the Small and Greater Skeppsholmen in the Northern Harbour, and Kramkistan in the Stångehuvud nature reserve
Season: October-May, usually Fridays and Saturdays
Duration: 2 hours from gathering until we part, i.e. including changing, security briefing, etc-
We spend a little more than an hour in the kayak, without going ashore.
Level: Novice/Beginner and intermediate
Guest requirements: Normal health; i.e. no known problems sitting still, e.g. circulation problems etc.
Max 110kg and/or 200cm (Length and weight limited by dry suits and cockpit size and possible leg length.)
Children/Youths: Children/youths under 16 years only together with paying adults.
Children (5-9 years) must be accompanied by an adult/child.
Maximum 3 young people (10-15 years) together with at least one adult.
Dogs: Since we go close to land, you can bring a dog on the boat. How much it costs depends on whether the dog can sit in the same cockpit as you, without hindering your ability to paddle.
A larger dog needs to have its own cockpit, and must be so calm and obedient that it does not jump into the water out of fear or to hunt waterfowl.
This is how we define "big" and "small", but you have to make your own judgement when making your reservation:
Small dog, max 10-15 kg, which sits on your lap or in a boot.
Large dog, from approx. 15 kg, which sits/lies in its own cockpit.
Your dog have to wear its own life jacket. You are able to swim 200 m and is strong enough to paddle alone with a larger dog in a tandem kayak.
We also have a kayak with room for a large dog and 1 adult, and 1 youth (10-15 years), alternatively 2 adults.
Included: Guide, paddle, life jacket and canopy/spray deck.
Place in a stable tandem kayak (K2), shared with another participant. In case of an odd number of participants, one of the participants paddles with the guide.
Bring: Wind/waterproof jacket or fleece. (Check the weather forecast)
Water to stay hydrated (approx. 33-50 cl). The water bottle can be attached with elastic cords to the top of the kayak.
Waterproof bag, if you are going to bring your phone or camera.
What to wear: Sun hat/cap/buff. Sunglasses if needed.
Sunscreen SPF15 or higher (applied to nose, cheeks, lips, nose, ears  and top of hand 30 minutes BEFORE arrival) if needed.
(A long-sleeved shirt usually provides enough UV protection. Wet cotton will cool you down.)
Come changed, preferably in trousers and sweater in wool/synthetic/functional material.
Avoid sneakers and boots.
Better take sandals, semi-soft slippers, flip-flops or even better: bathing shoes.
Rain/wind: We run the tour even if there is light fog or the risk of light showers.
In case of wind strength around 3-4 m/s, we make contact with registered participants the evening before the activity. Depending on wind direction and temperature, the tour may be cancelled, but if possible we will change the day and/or starting location.

Book Now
Normally we start in Norra Hamnen. Please arrive 5 minutes before. After a safety briefing, the guide will assist you in adjusting your equipment. Once the kayaks are launched and everyone is ready, it's time for basic paddling technique.

We paddle at a leisurely pace towards Kramkistan and Stångehuvud nature reserve when the weather permits. Otherwise, we keep to the protection offered by the islets Stora and Lilla Skeppsholmen. When we return, everyone helps each other to pick up, and rinse kayaks and other equipment before we finish the day's activity.

Family fun

We have adapted this tour to the needs of families with kids and dog owners. We stay close to the shore and take several breaks to discover what goes on under the kayaks.
