Stable and easy-to-maneuver kayaks that are suitable for beginners and inexperienced paddlers. Kayaks with room for two children or a dog are also available.
We have a few kayaks for the experienced sea kayaker who wants to go far or tour for several days.
We have limited opening hours in the kayak depot:
Pick-up 9.30am-10.30am and 4.45pm-5.15pm for evening hire.
Assistance with settings and launching 10.30-10.50 and 17.15-17.30. After that, we may have to leave for the next activity.
Kayak rentals must be booked no later than 3 hours in advance (call if you are running late or can't make it on time). When doing a multi-days rental, call us to confirm a time for pick up.

- All paddling is at your own risk. Study the safety information, seal and bird protection info below, and the weather report before you head out.
- We recommend that you use the canopy/spray deck in order not to get waves from passing motorboats into your cockpit.
Many waterways/fairways
Please note that Lysekil is exposed to the elements and that you must be very careful and attentive when passing over, or along, the many fairways around the Stångehuvud nature reserve.
Past Stångehuvud runs the "maritime E6 fairway" and other waterways run between Lysekil's commercial harbour and the open sea. There are also fairways on all sides of Stora Kornö.
All waterways/channels/fairways must be passed with a good margin of safety and without unnecessarily obstructing other traffic. Whether you're paddling across, or off a fairway, you can never count on boaters to see you kayaking, even though they should be looking out. Better wait than take a chance.
If you are unsure of your ability to handle the kayak or are paddling with children, we recommend a guided kayak tour or that you stay close to land, east from Norra Hamnen (ie on Saltö Fjord, south Saltö, east Stora Skeppsholmen).
Always included: kayak, paddle, spray deck, life jacket and bilge.
The kayaks must be cleaned at the return.
Flush the outside and inside as well as vacuum the water.
Spray skirt and life jacket are rinsed off and then hung up to dry.
It is about 300 meters to walk with the kayak to the insertion site. Cart for transport is available to borrow.

Highlights
We recommend the following level of skills in ocean kayaking for a tour on your own in Lysekil's archipelago, starting in Lysekil's Northern Harbour:
- Wind 3-5 m/s - at least one in your group has knowledge of ocean kayaking risk assesment and knows how to rescue a capsized companion
- Wind 6-8 m/s - at least one in your group has previous knowledge of ocean (open water) kayaking risk assesment and knows how to rescue a capsized companion
- Wind +8 m/s - at least one in your group has extensive experience of ocean kayaking and risk assesment, experience in guiding less experienced paddlers and knows companion rescue. If neither of you has these skills, we kindly urge you to join a guided tour in stead.
- Outdoor West will cancel kayak rental bookings (and refund the balance) when wind direction and speed combined are not suitable for beginners/intermediate level paddlers - unless you can prove your have sufficient skills.
